This study investigated the effect of altitude above sea level and the role of climate on the amount of active ingredients in the plant Teucium polium L., as well as identifying the best height for planting it, which is one of the most widely used medicinal plants in traditional medicine. Plant samples from three regions in Khorasan Razavi Province (Southern Mountains of Mashhad (1237 m above sea level); Torqaba (1280 m above sea level) and Kushsorkh Kashmar (1771 m above sea level) with different altitudes were collected at the flowering stage in June 2012 using a completely randomized block design and analyzed to determine the total phenolic content, oxygenated monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. Essential oils were extracted by water distillation and analyzed using gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Total phenolic content was measured by the Folin-Ciocalteau method. The results showed that with increasing altitude, the amount of oxygenated monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes and total phenolic content increased significantly. These findings indicate that Higher altitudes can improve the medicinal quality of calapore through increased bioactive compounds and provide valuable information for optimizing cultivation strategies for this plant.
